One way I collaborate with people beyond the academy has been by offering public workshops or lectures on the history of science and medicine. From the artists of Jo collective in London to the students at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, from desi community members attending the Wednesday Night Discussion Group in Cambridge, MA, to incarcerated Muslims at MCI-Norfolk and Stateville Prison, engaging with people beyond the academy has been as generative a learning process as it has been meaningful.
Public talks have included a lecture called "The Troubled History of Alternative Medicine" for the Science History Institute in Philadelphia, as well as a virtual talk with Claire Sabel through Science in the News titled "Whose History? Whose Science?" available on YouTube. The flyers for this talk, including the image below, were designed by Corena Loeb.
